ANGUS FLAVELLE

Angus Flavelle is a 23-year-old artist who lives on Beeliar Boodja (Hamilton Hill) and works in Walyalup (Fremantle). His practice is emerging and focuses on expressive acrylic on canvas works featuring oil pen drawings of his favourite muses, washing machines, fire engines, and ABBA.

Working with friend and mentor, Zoe Martyn, Angus combines bold colour and spinning movements. He titles many of his works ‘Happy and Surprised’, reflecting happy and surprising memories such as ‘the front-loader in my room, red fire trucks, Abba dances, and fireworks at the Claremont Royal show’.

Working from his studio at the Moores building in Fremantle, Angus is often inspired by the distant sound of the Fremantle Freight train, which he can hear from his workspace. This location has provided a base to continue to develop his practice as a painter in his beloved Walyalup.

Angus has ASD and volunteers at the Fremantle Fire Station where each week, he plays a crucial role in the maintenance of Fire trucks and has developed a strong connection with the firefighter community.
