"In this work, I am questioning the impact of sociopolitical power over the female body. This work is a personal commentary about the obstacles women (inclusive of identifying genders) face with their bodies, laws governing their bodies and with societal pressure." ~ Louise Rae
Louise Rae (she/her) is an emerging American Australian artist and recent Master of Arts (Fine Art, 2024) graduate from Curtin University, residing in Boorloo/Perth. Her work explores women’s bodies in relation to the cumulative impacts of trauma occurring under patriarchal structures that continue to harm women today.
With an undergraduate degree in Computer Science she is also interested in how technology and the female body interact in unexpected ways. Her work addresses her own personal experiences, but also engages in wider feminist discourse and sociopolitical tropes.
She works in video, textiles, ceramics, and other sculptural materials to explore these themes.
